SPRINGFIELD – A Springfield Public Schools committee announced Thursday it will not induct a former basketball star into its Athletic Hall of Fame after parents protested over the player being a convicted sex offender.
The decision to withdraw the nomination of ______comes two days before the annual induction ceremony on Saturday in the Central High School Gym.
Mike Martin, the school department’s director of athletics, issued a statement that said the committee, “upon reflection,” decided to take back both the nomination and induction of _____.
He has all sorts of crimes: cocaine dealing, violent physical assault. If he wasn’t on the registry he would still be inducted.
Not only does a certain registrant who used to be a star linebacker for the NY Giants – who shall remain nameless but goes by the initials LT – remain in the NFL Hall of Fame, he apparently was the star in an official NFL Thanksgiving promo last night. I guess the HoF can be forgiving and it is no big deal if one is famous…
Speaking of which… the person in question was convicted in NY and as a Level 1 required to register for 10 years and not subject to web site publication. Since then, he has moved to or returned to his residence in Florida and is, of course, listed on the web site. And probably / possibly will be even after he moves out of Florida or dies. One wonders if he is aware of that?
